The Whitsunday Golf Courses
Arriving to your golf course by boat is half the fun of this trip. At the end of the long wooden jetty at South Molle Island you’ll meander through tropical gardens with swaying palms and bobbing hibiscus before it opens out onto the nine hole Arch McArthur golf course.
Set at the foot of a wall of national park forest the course seems somewhat diminutive. Size and length are not its highlights – it’s only 1254m, so 18 holes will take just under two hours to play. There are seven par 3s and two par 4s with the longest hole being 258m. It’s short, fun, and would be a great challenge in a three club competition. At the club house you’ll note the names of past champions, including former women’s world no. 1 Karrie Webb.
Lindeman Island Golf Course
Native grasslands and a ranging plateau have given Lindeman Island’s golf course an ideal natural layout for a challenging and long nine hole course (including two par 5 holes). Exposure to the south easterlies provides a good test for any level golfer and it’s easy to see why so many sailors love the area. There are also spectacular views to many of the Whitsunday Islands including Border, Shaw and Pentecost islands.
This championship course was designed by former US Open and USPGA champion David Graham and partner Garry Panks. It offers a true challenge as the 6,399 meter layout meanders through native bush land and lush rainforest and is lapped by the Coral Sea on a number of fairways.
